Dentures can be kind of amazing because you think that that’s impossible to make people happy. But I’ve had so many patients come to me at a point when really their best decision was to replace all their teeth. Things have just gotten to that point where they knew it. They walk in the door, and they say, “Hey, look, I’m going to have to take out my teeth and do something else.” And when you’re replacing every tooth, then in a way, you’re giving people the opportunity to have something they’ve never had before, which is a perfect set of teeth. And so you spend the time to find out exactly what they’re interested in, what they want their smile to look like, and then we’re able to rebuild their mouth to where they can actually eat normally again and talk and smile and laugh and have a good time.
When people are to the point where dentures are the potential treatment, usually, you’ve got a situation where there’s neglect and there’s problems in there, and there can be infection and bacteria. And this can cause a problem in your entire body. If it was on your hand and it was like that, you know you would get it fixed. But sometimes people just ignore what’s in their mouth. But as soon as we remove the problem, we remove that source of all that bacteria, that alone just makes them healthier. But then when we give them back something that’s not a problem, something that’s not infected or a problem, then they’re able to chew and eat like normal. And being able to walk around and smile and laugh with your friends does make you a healthier person.
