When it comes to sleep dentistry, one thing that we do is we try to screen, which we’re just one of the few places where a person might even be introduced to the fact that maybe they aren’t sleeping good. Because again, people are adaptive and they just think they’re getting older and they’re tired because they’re older, but we try to screen for that. And then we’re going to point people to physicians to start the process. Physicians make the diagnosis. They’re going to start with the machine treatment. And that works for people and that’s great. We always encourage that. We would never take away something that works. But there are so many people who just can’t wear those machines. They try different masks, different this, different that, and they just can’t do it. And fortunately, when we make a device that opens up people’s airway, it’s more comfortable and it works really well. And so now we’ve got people sleeping through the night, six, eight hours a night uninterrupted. That allows your body to heal. That allows your body to repair itself. We’ve seen people who came off blood pressure medicine. Sometimes it affects diabetes in a positive way. I mean, just all aspects of a person’s full body health can improve when they treat that problem. And so while not everybody’s going to be wearing an appliance that we send off to physicians, we do know that everybody’s going to get healthier that treats that. So be it the physicians and the machines, or if they can’t do that, then they come to us and we can help with the appliance. So our patients that are wearing those appliances, most of them will tell us that they have a lot more energy. It’s like they’re 10 years younger. And, you know, they wish they’d done this years before and they wish they’d known about it years before. And so, you know, it’s really good to see people kind of come back to life and be rejuvenated. So it’s really fulfilling to be a part of that treatment.
Get the Quality Sleep You Need & Deserve
Sleep apnea often leads to sleep deprivation. Being sleep deprived affects you in a variety of ways. It leaves you fighting daytime sleepiness. It is detrimental to your mood, which can harm your relationship with friends and relatives. It also can increase your risk of being in an automobile accident.
Those are just a few reasons you should want to treat your condition. You can do that by getting one of our oral appliances. Here is how it helps you:
- Breathe Easier – People who have sleep apnea stop breathing up to hundreds of times every night. This prevents them from getting deep sleep. For people with obstructive sleep apnea (the most common type of this condition), their airways slowly close as they fall asleep. An oral appliance keeps their airways open.
- Sleep Deeper – When you stop breathing, your body will wake you up long enough to take a few breaths. That can keep you in a cycle of light sleep, snoring, and waking throughout the night. You stay asleep longer when you continue breathing.
- Enjoy Silent Nights – Your snoring is a direct result of your airway being restricted. By keeping your airway open, you snore less. In fact, your loved ones may report that you have practically stopped snoring entirely.
At our general dental office, you can find relief and improve the quality of your sleep for years to come. If you have struggled with CPAP therapy, you may find an oral appliance is simpler and easier to use.
We can also create other oral appliances to benefit you and your loved ones. If anyone in your family plays sports, bring them to us for custom-made athletic mouthguards. Patients who grind their teeth or have TMJ disorders have found relief from headaches and jaw pain with our bite guards.
